Maintaining New Year Resolutions
As we welcome the new year, it might feel overwhelming with the thoughts of what we are going to do to make this year better than the last. Getting caught up in diets, cleanses, and exercise fads, it becomes another form of stress and to do’s with a side of restraint. While it's a new year, it doesn’t have to be a year filled with pressure. Perhaps it’s a year of focusing on little moments of self-care.
So, how do you maintain your New Year Resolutions? Here are some tips that we at Soar Pilates swear by:
1️⃣ Mindful Breathing: No, it's not cliché! Taking a few minutes to concentrate solely on your breath can alleviate stress almost instantly. Whether you're in a crowded store or traffic or overwhelmed at work, a moment of deep breathing can center you.
2️⃣ Move and Stretch: Don't let your fitness routine falter due to time. Exercise can be a great stress-reliever. Even if you can't make it to our studio for a full class, a 10-minute home workout can make a world of difference.
3️⃣ Eating Mindfully: I’m sure with the holiday’s in our review mirror the time of excess have some what passed. However, sometimes when we focus on what not to eat, we end up limiting eating in general. Instead of focusing on the no, be aware of what you eat and how those foods make you feel. Remember, a balanced diet can positively affect your mood and energy levels.
Seasonal Wellness Tip: Sip on warm beverages like herbal teas that contain calming ingredients such as chamomile or lavender. This can act as a soothing balm for your nerves during tense moments.
Remember, while we are entering a new year, that doesn’t mean it has to be a whole new you. Look at your life from broader lens and all that you have accomplished in the past and use those successes to remind you of all that you can do with a love and self care.
